Uganda History

  • For over 20 years, northern Uganda was under attack by the Lord’s Resistance Army, a rebel group challenging the government for political control and which committed untold acts of crimes against humanity and the brutal slaughter of Ugandans.
  • More than 20,000 children aged 8-12 were abducted into the rebel army
  • Over one million people were reduced to abject poverty and displaced to Internally Displaced Peoples Camps for protection
  • Homes, families, life’s necessities, and education became a casualty of war
  • Education became a luxury few could pursue
  • Peace talks with the rebels in 2006 resulted in the rebelwithdrawl to neighboring countries
